National News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "We express our gratitude to Prime Minister Starmer and his government for strongly condemning the Pahalgam terrorist attack. We are of the unanimous opinion that there is no place for double standards in the fight against terrorism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (July 24) sent a strong message to his UK counterpart, Keir Starmer, in London, urging him to take action against "extremist ideology" that "undermines democracy by abusing democratic freedoms." The statement comes amid the growing influence of pro-Khalistani supporters in the UK.
According to media reports, speaking after the signing of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement in London, PM Modi said, "We thank Prime Minister Starmer and his government for strongly condemning the Pahalgam terrorist attack. We are unanimous in the fact that there is no place for double standards in the fight against terrorism." He further said, "We also agree that elements with extremist ideology cannot be allowed to misuse democratic freedoms. Those who use democratic freedoms to undermine democracy itself must be held accountable.
On the issue of extradition of economic offenders like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, PM Modi said, "With regard to the extradition of economic offenders, our agencies will work in coordination and cooperation." This statement reflects the growing strategic cooperation between India and the UK.

In fact, earlier this year, a leaked report from the UK Home Office included Khalistani extremism among the emerging extremist threats in the UK. However, the report also mentioned Hindu nationalism as a threat, which was criticized by India. The Ministry of External Affairs said, "We have seen some reports on this matter. The nature of the separatist and extremist threat emanating from the UK is well known. It should not be ignored or wrongly equated."
